Slow down, you are moving too fast

The last 2 months have been a whirlwind of activity around here. Summer ended, I completed a photography workshop,  built a website, school started, birthdays, my Mom moved here to Sturbridge from San Diego,  and the kickoff season to my photography business exploded. Most importantly of course the day to day hustle and bustle of everyday life, breakfast, playtime, giggles, working on letters for school, more meals, soccer, bath time, story time….

Thursday night after putting the kids to bed and settling down at my computer for another long night of photo editing I realized I needed to slow down. Life is moving too fast. How was it posable that it was already Halloween?

What slows down life for you? What keeps you grounded in the present moment? I know for me my kids do it every time. When I am truly focused on them, life slows down and I am just present to the miracle of life and love. I look into their eyes or take them in my arms the chaos of everyday life disappears for me. This weekend I slowed down, I worked less and was just present.

Oh Jayne…its as if I wrote this post…after the workshop life exploded! Fall is my favorite season, Halloween my FAVORITE holiday and I feel like I completely missed out! I absolutley underestimated the business of this time of a year for a photographer. How do we slow down though? I feel like the weeks, days, hours pass by so quickly!

I usually get to the point where I implode because I do not recognize that things are too fast, so I miss a committee meeting or we skip a swim class and all catch our breath. I am just now realizing what the effects of life moving to fast have on my family. Lazy football sundays are GOOD for the soul if you ask me. Or if it is summer our family favorite is the snooze cruise where we all put on our jammies and go look for shooting stars out on the boat. Cathing up on jaynejewell.com is a great way to chill too :)!

Slow down?! What’s that? Actually, I have been trying quite hard to restrict Sunday activities to family only. It isn’t as hard as I thought it would be and actually is more like when I grew up. Stores weren’t open on Sundays (no, it wasn’t that long ago and I’m only 40!) so the day was really quiet with a nice dinner at the end of it. So even though we go places and visit family and friends I try not to run errands or go shopping on Sundays. At the end of the day it feels like we have taken a long collective exhale.
