Blog Slacker?

A good friend just informed me that I have been being a “blog slacker” and she is right. I have been focusing my non-working time on my kids and am WAY behind on my blogging. I have been LOVING all this special time with my children.  Pushing this little one on the swing has taken priority over my blog the last few weeks. Can you blame me?

Back to School

I know I am a little late posting about back to school…. It has taken some time getting used to the new schedules, and having my kids in two different schools. Admission: -I miss having them home!

My little guy started full day kindergarten this year. I kept myself together for the orientation and manged to snap a few photos. I wanted to scream-dont go! Isn’t it crazy how you can want them to grow and experience new things and yet at the same time keep them young, little and safe in your arms.

The first day he received 5 workbooks! Really five? He is only five years old! Here is is diligently writing his name in his books. I will treasure this photo and always remember him holding the book and pen tying so hard to make his name neat. My heart just soared with pride.

The first real day of school I cried…. Aidan was excited and I was doing so well. I made it through morning prayers and the pledge to allegiance and then just as Aidan was heading off to his classroom his teacher handed the parents this.

Be honest, would that make you cry? I flipped it over and it was a photo of my little guy from the day before at orientation with his 8th grade buddy.

His first Day A. was thrilled to wear his gym uniform. He looks so yummy! I could hug and kiss him all day

This summer A. was upset/concerned that his best buddies would not be at the same school, that he wouldn’t be “cool” because after-all “cool” kids ride a bus to school and he was certain that uniforms were REALLY NOT COOL  I think he looks adorable in it and I am happy to report that all of his concerns have disappeared.

After 3 years of preschool in a Montessori School I knew we would be in for some transition. I am so HAPPY that he is doing well. He loves his teacher and has a high appreciation for her juggling skills. Every night he does his homework- yes homework every night for my little kindergartner. Truth be told I love it. He is learning valuable skills he will have for a lifetime.

Little Miss J started preschool! Can she really be old enough for school? Her first day was a breeze, after 3 years of dropping off her brother at Montessori she was ready for her turn. I picked out a dress for her first day but she insisted that the first day she should wear a tutu. How can a Mom argue with that?

We are almost a month into school and finally getting set in a routine and schedule. I survived the mountain of paperwork to be completed, created a system to manage the never ending paper communication coming in from both schools, learned the proper protocol for drop off and pick up, what day to wear which uniform, have all important dates for the schools on my calendar, attended my first PTO meeting, volunteered for 5 school committees, sold $450 in magazines for the school fundraiser, planned a birthday party for the entire class, completed homework every night,  healthy school lunches with some variety (not as easy as it sounds), snacks…. Have I mentioned I also have a career and a business? The list goes on and on for all Moms. I have deep respect for all the amazing women and Mom’s in my life. Thank you for your support this last month learning the ropes. I know it is just the beginning!!  :)  I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I am proud of both my little school children even though sometimes I just want to keep you cuddled up at home.

My senior year was an absolute blast. I admit it, I actually loved high school and the girlfriends that taught me what real friendship is.  These beautiful senior girls have an amazing friendship and wanted a session that captured all of them together. They picked their High School Minnechaug Reg High for the location. Class of 2011 will be the last seniors to graduate from this school as it stands right now.
