Finding the light – Ma child photographer

Finding the Light

This past year I have immersed myself in “everything photography”. I love it! I can’t get enough! I visit photography websites, active on forums and stalk the best photographer blogs daily.  I pick up my camera and practice, practice and practice even more.

I am grateful for the mentoring and coaching of photographer Christa Meola. Sometimes I fear she is just going to yell “enough of the questions already!”  She would never really do that, she is far too generous for that! We have spent countless hours on the phone together, on the internet, and emailing. We even got away for a weekend shooting in NYC.  Check out her blog to see pictures from our trip.

I have also taken great photography workshops. My first workshop was very basic but well worth the time. I learned everything I needed to know to get off automatic and shoot manual. This is a great place to start for anyone who first picks up a DSLR.  Check out Candace’s work shop here.

My next workshop I scouted out was Karen Russell’s Snap shot of a good life. Karen is so amazing and she has a waitlist a mile long. Her workshops sell out in 3 mins! Karens workshop consists of recordings, a notebook about 4 inches thick rich with information, critiques of your homework and a forum where she answers every single post! The course is 9 weeks long and she doesn’t charge nearly enough for it. Drop in on her blog to see some of her work.

Currently I am in Marta Locklear’s The Workshop . I absolutely love her work.  While the last workshops I did focused more on the technical aspect of photography and now I am taking my photography to the next level with Marta ‘s gift, creativity. I am stretched with every lesson. The workshop includes videos of Marta walking you through her shoots, lessons that stretch me in ways I never have been stretch in photography, photo critiques, live video chats and a forum of amazing women all wanting to grow their photography skills and business. Marta has been extremely generous with her time and has been available in the online chat room daily to answer questions. OK, not just daily, us girls have been known to chat past midnight almost every night! You have to check out her website!

This brings me to Finding the light…….

These pictures are part of my homework for The Workshop. The assignment was to find sources of light in our own homes and to constructively critique everyone in class’s photos. I am not sure what was harder choosing what photos to submit or evaluating the photos.

*tear* It has been a blast… you are a riot and anyone would be darn lucky to have you photograph their children, or just be a part of their lives. I am glad you are enjoying yourself, and best of all…learning!
